“We speak for ourselves. Prisoners take the floor”
Exhibition at the Kunsthalle Wien Karlsplatz, 14.9.-22.9.2024
“Every prisoner is a stranger in his homeland,” said one prisoner. What does it mean to have no voice and not be heard by the outside world? What rights do prisoners have in Austria? The project addressed the issue of human dignity in prison and referred to topics such as resistance versus adaptation, solidarity versus lack of solidarity. The prisoners had the floor. They spoke for themselves and shared their experiences. It was about representing their own interests, expressing themselves and self-reflection through art, training and work opportunities. What should change and who is fighting for it?
